In trying to compose a recent poem it occurred to me that some things need to be said in prose. Perhaps later I can translate this into something other than a truism or an obviously trite piece.
As much as I abhor physical violence, I truly believe we betray ourselves if we do not oppose injustice. Outrage is not violence.
Hurt and anger have emotional gravity that can not be conveyed with polite gesture or silence. Racism, prejudice dishonesty and corruption must be met with equal measure. Physical violence perpetrated by an individual is wrong to be sure.. But I do not intend to disguise emotional assault and betrayal as misunderstanding. The worth and truth of my emotions should be evident in the acuity of my expression. And the strength of that emotion should bear witness to the honor and sincerity of commitment shown. Such intense feeling, I believe, is complimentary to the value of the sentiments. .
Threat of violence, let alone physical assault, should not in any way be tolerated. But the revelation of truth and the depth of hurt and anger are not acts of violence. Let the truth be its own defense. Grace should rule the day. But peace and justice must reveal responsibility, accountability and true restitution through understanding and maturity. The worth of my heart is all I have in this lifetime to marshal my earnest endeavor...
